    New blog
I needed to get motivated to start writing again, and I decided that the best way to do that for me was to start a new blog. The idea is that it will be much more candid, and an honest, heartfelt representation of what is going on in my life at any given time. This will be the place for silly quizzes, memes and the like. The new LJ username is Eponarising, and if you;d like to stay on my friends list, feel free to leave a comment there.

    Until then!

Your pain is the breaking of the shell that encloses your understanding.
Even as the stone of the fruit must break, that its heart may stand in the sun, so must you know pain.
And could you keep your heart in wonder at the daily miracles of your life, your pain would not seem less wonderous that joy:
And you would accept the seasons of your heart, even as you have always accepted the seasons that pass over your fields. And you would satch with serenity trough the winters of your grief.

Canadian University developing a Shakespeare- themed video game. “But soft, what light through yonder window breaks? It is the east, and all your base are belong to us”

Video game aims to hook children on Shakespeare
    Fri Apr 27, 2007 1:53PM EDT
    By Martin Roberts
TORONTO (Reuters Life!) - Children typically spend hours in front of a computer so a Canadian university has decided to introduce them to Shakespeare with a video game.
While zapping enemy spaceships players have to help recover the stolen text of Romeo and Juliet by memorizing lines from the famous play, learning facts about Shakespeare's life and devising synonyms and homonyms for parts of the text.
"The game is a way to capitalize on the time that kids spend on computers," said Professor Daniel Fischlin who headed the team at the University of Guelph in Ontario that developed the game called "Speare.
"I don't know of another medium that has seven-year-olds spouting Shakespeare," Fischlin added in response to charges the game might trivialize learning.
The game was launched earlier this week to coincide with the anniversary of Shakespeare's death after two years and C$50,000 ($44,800) spent developing it.
Fischlin, who tested it on more than 100 grade 6 students, plans to publish his findings in an academic journal. The game is currently available online from a company set up by the university.
"Speare" contains a link to a database about Shakespeare called Canadian Adaptations of Shakespeare that was developed by the university as an educational resource.
The site has lesson plans for teachers, video interviews and e-books of the Bard's plays. It provided the inspiration for the game when professors realized the site's multimedia features were accessed mainly by young people.
Fischlin, who is applying for a patent, said he knows of no other video game linked to a similar online resource.
Ieva Mikelsons, a 12-year-old student at the King George Public School in Guelph, tested the game while it was being developed. She said it taught her more about Shakespeare than books used by her older sister.
"Some of my grade 8 friends have just been learning from a book, and they say this is a more hands-on approach, and they learn more because it's fun," she said.

    I ride.
That seems like such a simple statement. However as many women who ride know it is really a complicated matter. It has to do with power and empowerment. Being able to do things you might have once considered out of reach or ability.
I have considered this as I shovel manure, fill water barrels in the cold rain, wait for the vet/farrier/electrician/hay delivery, change a tire on a horse trailer by the side of the freeway, or cool a gelding out before getting down to the business of drinking a cold beer after a long ride.

The time, the money, the effort it takes to ride calls for dedication. At least I call it dedication. Both my ex-husbands call it 'the sickness'. It's a sickness I've had since I was a small girl bouncing my model horses and dreaming of the day I would ride a real horse. Most of the women I ride with understand the meaning of 'the sickness'. It's not a sport. It's not a hobby. It's what we do and, in some ways, who we are as women and human beings.

    I ride.
I hook up my trailer and load my gelding. I haul to some trail head somewhere, unload, saddle, whistle up my dog and I ride. I breathe in the air, watch the sunlight filter through the trees and savor the movement of my horse. My shoulders relax. A smile rides my sunscreen smeared face. I pull my ball cap down and let the real world fade into the tracks my horse leaves in the dust.

Time slows. Flying insects buzz loudly, looking like fairies. My gelding flicks his ears and moves down the trail. I can smell his sweat and it is perfume to my senses. Time slows. The rhythm of the walk and the movement of the leaves become my focus. My saddle creaks and the leather rein in my hand softens with the warmth.

I consider the simple statement; I ride. I think of all I do because I ride. Climb granite slabs, wade into a freezing lake, race a friend through the manzanita all the while laughing and feeling my heart in my chest. Other days just the act of mounting and dismounting can be a real accomplishment. Still I ride, no matter how tired or how much my seat bones or any of the numerous horse related injuries hurt.

    I ride.
And I feel better for doing so. The beauty I've seen because I ride amazes me. I've ridden out to find lakes that remain for the most part, unseen. Caves, dark and cold beside rivers full and rolling are the scenes I see in my dreams. The Granite Stairway at Echo Summit, bald eagles on the wing and bobcats on the prowl add to the empowerment and joy in my heart.

I think of the people, mostly women, I've met. I consider how competent they all are. Not a weenie amongst the bunch. We haul 40 ft rigs, we back into tight spaces without clipping a tree. We set up camp. Tend the horses. We cook and keep safe. We understand and love our companions, the horse. We respect each other and those we encounter on the trail. We know that if you are out there riding, you also shovel, fill, wait and doctor. Your hands are a little rough and you travel without makeup or hair gel. You do without to afford the 'sickness' and probably, when you were a small girl, you bounced a model horse while you dreamed of riding a real one.

My treasures do not chink or glitter, They gleam in the sun and neigh in the night.

There are 19 letters in your name.
Those 19 letters total to 73
There are 7 vowels and 12 consonants in your name.

    What your first name means:
Persian Female Variant of Margaret: Child of light. Famous Bearer: Margaret Thatcher, former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.
Greek Female Variant of Margaret: Pearl.
    Anglo-Saxon Female Strong and capable.

    Your number is: 1

The characteristics of #1 are: Initiating action, pioneering, leading, independent, attaining, individual.

The expression or destiny for #1:
A number 1 Expression denotes the skilled executive with keen administrative capabilities. You must develop the capacity to be a fine leader, sales executive, or promoter. You have the tools to become an original person with a creative approach to problem solving, and a penchant for initiating action. Someone may have to follow behind you to handle the details, but you know how to get things going and make things happen. You have a good mind and the ability to use it for your advancement. Because of these factors, you have much potential for achievement and financial rewards. Frequently, this expression belongs to one running a business or striving to achieve a level of accomplishment on ones talents and efforts. You have little need for much supervision, preferring to act on your own with little restraint. You are both ambitious and determined. Self-confident and self-reliant must be yours, as you develop a strong unyielding will and the courage of your convictions.

Although you fear loneliness, you want to be left alone. You fear routine and being in a rut. You often jump the gun because you are afraid of being left behind.

The negative attributes of the 1 Expression are egotism and a self-centered approach to life. This is an aggressive number and if it is over-emphasized it is very hard to live with. You do not have to be overly aggressive to fulfill your destiny. The 1 has a natural instinct to dominate and to be the boss; adhering to the concept of being number One. Again, you do not have to dominate and destroy in order to lead and manage.

Your Soul Urge number is: 1

A Soul Urge number of 1 means:
Your Soul Urge is the number 1. With a Soul Urge number of 1, you want to lead and direct, to work independent of supervision, by yourself or with subordinates. You take pride in your abilities and want to be recognized for them. You may seek opportunities to display your strength and usefulness, wanting to create and originate. In your desire to manage the big picture and the main issues, you may often leave the details to others.

The positive 1 Soul Urge is Ambitious and determined, a leader seeking opportunities. There is a great deal of honesty and loyalty in this character. If you possess positive 1 Soul Urge qualities, you are very attainment oriented and driven to success. You are a loyal friend and strictly fair in your business dealings.

The negative side of the 1 Soul Urge must be avoided. A negative 1 is apt to dominate situations and people; the home, the spouse, the family and the business. Emotions aren't strong in this nature. If you possess an excess of 1 energy, you may, at times, be boastful and egotistic. You must avoid being too critical and impatient of trifles. The great need of the 1 Soul Urge is the development of friendliness, and a sincere interest in people.

Your Inner Dream number is: 9

An Inner Dream number of 9 means:
You dream of being creative, intellectual, and universal; the selfless humanitarian. You understand the needy and what to help them. You would love to be a person people count on for support and advice.

Well, Kickboxing is done for the summer. The last class was great, but now I'm already wondering what I can to to keep active outside of work for the summer. I have trouble just going to the gym and making myself sit on all the pretty little machines. I need to find something else fun to do. Any suggestions?

There is Sand in my Pants
    And it isn't comfortable.
    How did it get there?
    Martians!
No, really, I fell off in my lesson tonight.
    Twice.
    It was spectacular.
The first fall wasn't bad. I was riding Billy, the 4 year-old I'm working with, because he's being started over fences. He jumped, threw a buck, I bailed, landed on my feet and then fell forward on to my knees. Not so bad. The second fall is where it gets interesting. He took a HUGE leap over an Oxer with Blue flowers undereath, My legs slid back because I wasn't expecting such a big jump, and I lost my stirrups. No, I really lost them. The leathers slid backwards right off the bars, leaving me without a base of support upon landing. I didn't even know what had happened until my coach carried them over to me. I don't know what I hit first, but I cracked my helmet (Thank god I wear the thing). I re-injured my right shoulder, but I'm otherwise ok, and at least he didn't refuse! What a good baby.
On the baby front, no baby yet. That is to say, Cayenne hasn't foaled.

    More news later.

Edit: I lied. My knee hurts now too

What's alchemy? The hoax of charlatans?
Or mystic quest for stuff of life itself:
eternal search for the Philosopher's Stone,
    where mingling and unmingling opposites,
transforms base metal into precious gold.
    Hence, scientific metaphor of self:
    divide the mind's opposing archetypes
--if you possess the courage for the task--
    invite them from the shadows to the light;
unite these lurking shards of broken glass
into a mirror that reflects one soul.
And in this merging of unconscious selves,
there lies the mystic 'marriage of true minds.'

    *sheepish*
    I know I havn't posted in a while, so here's what's been going on:

Right now the telephone company is replacing that infamous pole in the middle of our driveway, because a truck backed into it this weekend and cracked it.

Easter weekend was NERO, and as usual, it was super-fun. I cast my major! And I oblitted Vexax's circle! For those of you not involved in my rampant geekery, that's something to be proud of.

Work is going spectacularly. I'm working with a 4 year old named Billy, and tomorrow I'm starting him over fences. Viper Got a 4th in a show on Saturday, and is showing again this weekend. Wait a minute, you guys havn't heard about Viper yet, have you? Viper is a 4 year old Dutch Warmblood. He's a rose grey gelding that stands about 16hh, and he's my favourite horse in the world. He's on track to take my coach to the olympics in a few years if he keeps up with his potential. Viper was left in a field from the time he was born until he was 3 and a half. No Human Contact. So the fact that he turned out so wonderfully sweet and incredibly smart is rather impressive. This weekend was his second show, and so far he's doing amazingly. *heart*
Cayenne hasn't foaled yet, but I'll update when she does.
Henry died of an aneurysm over the weekend while I was away. He was 7.

School stuff is going less quickly than I hoped, but I'll pull it together. (I'm still working on my entrance exam thing for NTS) I Love the play that I'm working with, so hopefully my ideas for the show come across as well on paper as they play out in my head. I'm going to be so dissappointed if I don't get in.

Umm...What else...I have a sore throat, but my hurt shoulder isn't nearly so hurt anymore.

My new computer is wonderful, and is still being improved, and I've picked up my guitar again.

Everything is generally awsome. Oh, and I got a chocolate bunny that didn't use guard-me!

I think that's it for now.
